Λιβάνι είναι ένα από τα στοιχεία τα οποία απαρτίζεται το θυμίαμα. Επίσης λιβάνι ήταν και ένα από τα τρία δώρα των Μάγων στο νεογέννητο Χριστό. Αυτό αποδεικνύει τη σπανιότητα και την πολυτιμότατα του. Το λιβάνι είναι μια αρωματική ρητινώδης ύλη. Μοιάζει πολύ με το ρετσίνι του πεύκου και είναι σκληρό όπως η μαστίχα Χίου. Το δένδρο από το οποίο προέρχεται ονομάζεται Μποζουέλια (Boswellia) του οποίου κάποιες από τις ποικιλίες είναι Παπυρηφέρα , Καρτέρι κλπ. και βρίσκεται στις Αφρικανικές χώρες Αιθιοπία, Ομάν, Σομαλία, Σουδάν και Υεμένη. Είναι δέντρο πολύ ψηλό και πυκνόφυλλο, που δύο συγκεκριμένους μήνες τον χρόνο χαράζεται με ειδικά μαχαίρια ο κορμός του. Το λιβάνι τρέχει από τις χαρακιές και στη συνέχεια το μαζεύουν. Χρησιμοποιείται επίσης στην φαρμακευτική και την αρωματοποιία.

Περιέχει 5 τεμάχια (καρβουνάκια).Είναι πολύ εύκολα στην χρήση αφού ανάβουν γρήγορα και δεν βγάζουν πολύ καπνό κατά την καύση.Το χαρακτηριστικό τους είναι ότι αναδύουν ένα ευχάριστο άρωμα καθόλη την διάρκεια της καύσης τους,ενισχύοντας την μυρωδιά του μοσχολίβανου.
